Frequently Asked Questions
Where should we visit first, Dwarka or Bet Dwarka?
Traditionally, pilgrims first have darshan of Lord Dwarkadhish at the Jagat Mandir in Dwarka, then visit Bet Dwarka. Many devotees believe the Dwarka yatra is complete only after Bet Dwarka darshan.
Which is the original, Dwarka or Bet Dwarka?
Both are sacred parts of Lord Krishna’s Dwarka. Dwarka is believed to be the seat of his kingdom, where he ruled as king. Bet Dwarka is believed to be his royal residence, where he lived with his family.
How far is Bet Dwarka from Dwarka?
Bet Dwarka is about 32–35 km from Dwarka, around 45 minutes to 1 hour by road. The route goes from Dwarka to Okha, then across the Sudarshan Setu bridge over the sea to the island. Lord Krishna’s royal residence at Bet Dwarka can easily be visited on the same day as Dwarkadhish darshan.
Which other temples can we visit in Bet Dwarka?
Along with the main Dwarkadhish Temple, devotees visit Hanuman Dandi, believed to be the only temple where Lord Hanuman is worshipped together with his son Makardhwaj. Smaller shrines dedicated to Lord Krishna’s family are also found across the island.
Can we visit Bet Dwarka and Nageshwar on the same day?
Yes. Nageshwar Jyotirlinga is on the road from Dwarka to Okha, so both darshans can be done in one day, along with Gopi Talav on the same route.
